~ ATTACHING A QUILT SLEEVE ~

GOOD MORNING, GIRLS!

This is an Antique Quilt belonging to Cay Warner of Pampa, TX.  She has asked me to attach a Quilt Sleeve to some of her Antique Quilts so that she can hang them in her home.

I thought I would show the process ~

We are going to make a 4" sleeve.

1.  Measure the top edge of the Quilt, . . .  measure down about 1/2' from the top edge ~

This Quilt Measures 69 " wide ~

2.  Cut (or rip) a strip that is 9" long and the width of your Quilt plus 1" ~

This one will be 70" ~

3.  Fold in the short end 1/2" and press, then fold in again 1/2" and press ~

4.  Sew a seam along the short ends ~

5.  Fold the strip in half with the wrong sides together and press, . . .  by doing it this way, you do not have to turn the tube - the seam will be hid between the Quilt Backing and the Sleeve ~

6.  Along the raw edge, stitch the long edge together with a 1/2" seam ~

7.  Press the seam open ~

8.  Center it and Press ~

9.  Along one of the long edges, fold down and press 1/4" - this allows a little slack so that the Quilt will hang better ~

10.  Pin the sleeve to the back of the Quilt, about 1/2" from the top of the Quilt ~

11.  Hand-stitch the sleeve to the Quilt - stitch around all four edges - make sure your stitches only go through the backing and the batting - you should not be able to see the stitches from the front of the Quilt ~

12.  Your Quilt is ready to hang!
