Red, White and Blue Fourth of July 2016 Quilt ~

Well . . . ,

I didn't think it was Going To Happen,

BUT IT DID ~

I was a little Unsure How it was Going to Turn Out

(check out my June 28, 2016 Post)

BUT . . . , I LOVE IT!

 

When I first decided to Piece this Quilt, my thoughts were -

"You don't need anymore Quilts -   Where are you Going to Put It!"

Then I thought, "I will just Piece the Top and Give It Away."

BUT . . . ,

It happens Every Time - I FALL IN LOVE with the Quilt and Can't Stand to Part With It.

It is Now,

ONE OF MY FAVORITES!

SO . . . ,

as of right now,

I'm Going To Keep It!

I didn't use Just One Certain Collection of Fabric in this Quilt

but instead,

Throw Some Prints together that I Loved and Blended Well Together.

I have just enough of these same Fabrics to make another Quilt.

I used my All Time Favorite Pattern

"Turning Twenty Just Got Better" by Tricia Cribbs.

Tutorial ~ Figuring Yardage For Quilt Backs ~

 I decided to QUILT my "Courthouse Steps" Quilt today.

I have been putting it off because I couldn't decide what I wanted to use for the Backing Fabric. 

 I saw this Polk-a-Dot Print and thought it would be perfect!

Just a Quick Note on Figuring Yardage for Backing Fabric -

My Quilt Top measured

67" x 81"

add 6" to both measurements and you get

73" x 87"

which is what your Quilt Back will have to measure.

The width of fabric is normally 44"/45", so if you sew two pieces together you are going to get approximately 88".  That measurement will take care of the 87" needed for the length of the quilt.

You will need to cut two pieces 73" long to cover the width of the Quilt.

(73" x 2 = 146" / 36" = 4.25 yds of fabric).

I cut off the selvage edge of one piece and then cut off the opposite selvage edge of the second piece.

If the fabric is directional, this will keep both pieces of fabric going the same way.

Sew these two timmed edges together.

You now have one piece measuring 73" x 88".

PERFECT!

Ready to Quilt !
